Though Star Trek: Prodigy was cancelled by Paramount+, that doesn’t mean it’s down for the count.

If the series creators Kevin and Dan Hageman are successful in their bid to find the animated series another streaming channel home, they have their sights set on something much loftier than just a season three renewal—the big screen. At the Star Trek Las Vegas convention, via Trekmovie, the creators expressed their desire to not only have their show picked up so fans could see season two, they also wanted a season three which they want to set up up an animated film series.

Kevin Hageman said he thinks Star Trek needs to have an “epic animated film series that have a new adventure every couple of years that the who family can go see.” He went on to explain that it was going to be much easier to make an animated film than a live action film because of the expense.

Star Trek: Prodigy is the perfect series for the big screen.

As much as we love Prodigy on the small screen, we can only imagine it on the big screen, but we do know that it would be an exceptional launch for the Star Trek franchise. To date, Star Trek has not had an animated movie in theaters. And Prodigy is the perfect type of animation, much like a Pixar movie or the recent release of Babylon 5: The Road Home.

It might be presumptive to be looking ahead to a film series when Prodigy hasn’t found another home yet, but as mentioned before, there is a 99% certainty among the creators  that Prodigy hasn’t reached its end. Season two is still being completed, and any streaming channel would be fortunate to find such a series with a built-in audience. And once that happens, we know the next step that’ll be taken with Prodigy after season three.
