Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Captain Picard was a big fan of tea, Earl Grey, hot, preferably.

And oftentimes, when he and Dr. Beverly Crusher had breakfast together, a particular tea set was on display. So when a thrifty shopper found the 11-piece set for only $8 at Goodwill and shared the news on the Reddit thread ThriftStoreHauls, the news was met with both amazement and a little jealousy as reported by The Sun.

The set came with four mugs, a teapot, milk decanter, and sugar pot with two resting plates, all of which retail for at least $400 as it’s a Peter Saenger Star Trek The Next Generation Captain Picard set. The Picard set for sale at Saenger Porcelain only has seven pieces so, understandably, the thrift-store shopper found a great deal and something some Star Trek fans have been wanting for years.

The comments on the Reddit thread would have made Captain Picard proud.

As it turns out, Picard wasn’t the only one who preferred this tea set as the comments on the shopper’s find were enthusiastic. While genuinely happy for the shopper, those who had not acquired this treasure of Trek memorabilia were understandably disappointed with one saying “my envy is so intense I could die.” Commenter Izzydodo followed that with “FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THIS SUB I FEEL HOT RAGE AND ENVY!” But one of the best comments was “There are four cups!”

It was suggested that the tea set could very well be from the original production company’s overstock of the prop which was eventually offloaded. Regardless, this is a very unique find, and if the buyer isn’t a Star Trek fan, then they certainly have a way to make a decent profit off their purchase. And this should remind us all to pay careful attentoin when we’re out shopping for bargains.
