With a former Borg now captain of a starship, it’s possible that a door is open to the Federation.

Star Trek: Legacy hasn’t been greenlit, and we don’t know for sure it will go forward, although, it would be surprising if Paramount did decide to pass on the potential game-changing series. When Star Trek: Picard season three ended, Seven of Nine had been assigned the captain of the new Enterprise, which was a first in Federation history as the Borg were still considered enemies, especially since Starfleet had almost been annihilated by them.

But when season two of Star Trek: Picard ended, the Borg Queen had united with Dr. Agnes Jurati and formed a hybrid Borg/human that was amenable to working with the Federation and changing the ways of the Borg…at least in her portion of the Collective anyway. Screenrant writer John Orquiola makes a good case for this possibility even though the new Borg didn’t return to aid in the battle in Picard’s final season.

The Federation has done serious damage to the Borg, and the remaining villains may see no future possibility for assimilation.

As intelligent as the Borg are, even they should know by now that Starfleet will always stand in the way between them and assimilation of other worlds. And having been outwitted so many times, it would make sense that the Borg would want to learn from their enemies. With Queen Jurati already having knowledge of what it’s like to work with Starfleet instead of against them, it would be a smart choice for these villains to change their ways.

While the Borg Queen, once joined with Agnes Jurati, was open to working as an ally instead of an enemy, there are still plenty of Borg left who may not be as amenable to such an alliance. However, bringing the Jurati Queen back would establish communication between the two. And as horrific as they’ve been, the Borg could be powerful allies. With such a union in place, it would open the door for Star Trek to bring in a different, even darker, villain that will take all the Borg and the Federation have to defeat it.

dark. Next. Star Trek: Picard’s Dr. Jurati did the impossible and that deserves to be remembered.
