With the writers’ strike now over, Paramount is forging ahead with several projects, one of which is Star Trek 4.

The writers’ strike brought scripts and preproduction to a standstill for the past few months, but now that the strike has been resolved, studios are eager to get moving again. They’re in a hustle to get shows into preproduction, and according to Trekmovie, one of Paramount’s top priorities is Star Trek 4.

"“Several big movie projects could see preproduction resume quickly. Paramount is hoping to have writers fine-tuning scripts for its planned reboot of “Star Trek” and its adaptation of Tom Clancy’s “Rainbow Six.”"

While the statement, originally coming from Variety, doesn’t specifically indicate Star Trek 4, we’re assuming that is the reboot referenced as no other reboots have been greelit to our knowledge.

The idea for Star Trek 4 comes straight from J.J. Abrams

Though screenwriter Lindsey Anderson Beer cowrote a couple of drafts before she departed the movie to work on Pet Semetary, Beer told ComicBook.com that the original “seed of the idea” came from J.J. himself.

"“And it was originally, the seed of the idea came from J.J. himself, who’s such a creatively generous person, and it was amazing collaborating with him…”"

Abrams discussed the idea in a conversation he had with Esquire, but he didn’t admit at the time that the idea for the story was his.

"“I will say it’s the first time that we have a story that feels as compelling as the first one [2009’s Star Trek].”"

Star Trek: Beyond, the third movie in the Star Trek reboot, didn’t earn as much money as the original two in the series, so Paramount is taking a chance with going for a number four, especially after seven years. Though some fans are still interested, others think it’s time to move on and focus on newer movies and the upcoming series.

Still, even though the movie might be going into preproduction, that doesn’t mean we’ll see it any time soon. It’s not like we haven’t been hearing a lot about the film since Star Trek Beyond debuted.
