Ro Laren left the Enterprise in a startling betrayal to Captain Picard, and for years, the two never reconnected, never had a chance to clear the air. Star Trek: Picard season three gave them that opportunity. It was an emotional scene that had been a long time in the making, and fans were glad to see Laren and Picard confront the problems that existed between the two of them.

With the pair standing in a version of Ten Forward, it was a moment of clarity and hope as fans had always hoped that Laren would realize the error of her ways and return to Starfleet. Finding out she had was a welcome piece of knowledge, and the reunion she was finally able to share with Picard once the air cleared was a long time coming.

But that warm feeling didn’t last very long as Laren was killed shortly after leaving the Titan. It was a needless death and caused Picard even more grief as if he hadn’t had a lifetime of that. What should have happened, what could happen with her return, is a relationship they deserved all along, that of a father and a daughter.
