Star Trek: Lower Decks wants more crossovers.

The second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and the fourth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks saw the two shows cross-mingle. In the Strange New Worlds episode, Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid made their live-action debut in Strange New Worlds reprising their characters from Lower Decks; Beckett Mariner and Brad Boilmer respectively.

While they kept the essence of their animated Lower Deck characters, they were a little more toned down, with the focus on fitting them into the Strange New Worlds portion of the universe, while also balancing the bombastic energy they both possess. It was a solid effort that many fans really enjoyed.

This has caused many within the Lower Decks arena to do more crossovers. At the New York Comic Con, Lower Deck’s showrunner Mike McMahan asked Star Trek head Alex Kurtzman (via TrekMovie) about doing one more crossover, allowing McMahan, who missed the last crossover due to a COVID scare, to be part of one.

Kurtzman seemingly gave him the go-ahead.

"McMahan: Can we do one more crossover so I can come?Kurtzman: Yeah, absolutely.McMahan: I’m going to keep pushing so I can be on set."

Will there be another crossover among Star Trek brands?

It’s fair to say that there may not be another Star Trek crossover at the current rate of progress over at Paramount+. The streaming service has ended (or canceled) three of the franchise’s shows this year alone, and while a show like Picard was only mapped for three seasons; everyone involved is talking about doing more work together; clearly there could’ve been a fourth season.

Discovery was canceled after five seasons, while Prodigy only got one season before being canceled and later revived by Netflix. There are rumors bubbling, that McMahan himself started, that Lower Decks may be on the chopping block.

And considering it took Michelle Yeoh saving the Section 31 project, by apparently agreeing to turn the show it into a film, there isn’t much hope that McMahan is going to get a fifth season with Lower Decks. But hey, it could very easily happen.
