Kid Cudi dropped his Star Trek crossover at the New York Comic Con event.

Star Trek and Kid Cudi came together for an event dubbed Star Trek x Kid Cudi, and it was announced alongside a new line of clothing that he’d have a hand in designing, a new song that is inspired by Trek, and a new video game mode in Fortnite that features Kid Kudi. The announcement for all of this was originally very vague but it was later flushed out in subsequent releases.

Now, thanks to the New York Comic Con event, fans can now see what all the hype and build-up was for. First up are the clothes for the event. There are two t-shirts, one button-up, one long-sleeve, a hooded sweatshirt, and a varsity jacket (images courtesy of TrekMovie.com). For the most part, they’re all interesting to a degree, with the long-sleeve and Kid Cudi-specific t-shirts being the least impressive.

For $45 you expect better, but some of the designs, like the button-up and the varsity jacket, may be worth the high prices the brand has put on them.

Now for the song, Heaven’s Galaxy. It’s not for everyone. It’s hard to nail down what was expected of it, but it felt like a Kid Cudi song that he just leaned to Star Trek to be used. There wasn’t anything about it that felt Trek-inspired. Is it bad? No, it’s going to be someone’s favorite song and we can understand why, but it didn’t fit the Star Trek vibe.

And lastly is the Star Trek crossover with Fortnite. Inspired by the Mirror Universe, it’s unclear from the trailer what the gameplay actually is, but it seems like you’re chasing after a digitized Kid Cudi, avoiding his ray gun as he goes. We’ll have more on this after we’ve played the actual game mode later this week.

Does the crossover deliver?

To each their own on this one. The Fortnite game mode and song are free to play and listen to, and no one is forcing anyone to purchase the clothes. It’s not a bad thing by any means but some of the designs aren’t worth the price they’re being sold for and the abundance of game modes on Fortnite will make it hard for this Trek crossover to stand out against.
