Cirroc Lofton hasn’t returned to the role of Jake Sisko since the end of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

While Nana Visitor and Armin Shimerman had the opportunity to reprise their roles via voice acting on Star Trek: Lower Decks, Cirroc Lofton didn’t return to portray Captain Benjamin Sisko’s son.

But Lofton isn’t done with the character. In a conversation with Screenrant [via /film], he said he was open to a Picard-esque style Deep Space Nine, perhaps one that focused on Jake’s journey after leaving the space station. And since we haven’t heard much about Jake, it would be a different kind of series. Even Terry Matalas, the showrunner of Star Trek: Picard, had an idea for Jake to return. So clearly, others think it’s time to bring him back to the Star Trek fold.

Cirroc Lofton does think there’s a chance that Deep Space Nine will return.

Years ago, no one could have imagined that Captain Picard would return to the small screen as an Admiral or that a promoted Captain Janeway would be leading a group of juveniles on a journey to find Captain Chakotay. Honestly, we probably all thought the series were done, but like Matalas, Lofton doesn’t think so.

"“Do I think there’s a chance? Yeah, I think there’s a chance, I wouldn’t say there’s no chance. And I would also say that now being over 30 years removed from when we started the show, you start to look back at how the show impacts people today and our society and where it’s going today. And some of those storylines that we covered, and the subject matter that we covered, it’s becoming more relevant than it was when we did it. […] I won’t close the door on that.”"

Though Deep Space Nine could, in some form, be brought back to the screen, it wouldn’t be the same without some of the main characters; however, it would give fans a chance to see what some of those who remained behind have been doing.

As for Lofton, it’s a dream of his to return to the character, and he says he’ll never close the door on those dreams.

"“Sure, it would be a dream of mine to reprise the role of Jake Sisko and do it again. So I will never close the door on those dreams.”"

And based on what we know about current Star Trek, we can definitely say “never say never.”
