Everybody loves a good bad guy, but the best bad guys are the ones who don’t know they’re the bad guy.

Marc Alaimo’s Gul Dukat is one of the greatest sleazebuckets in the history of Star Trek! All through the entire seven seasons of DS9, Dukat never once believes he’s the bad guy in any of this. He’s a conniving, underhanded, meticulous strategist intent on regaining his status as the Prefect of Bajor during the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor, as the Commander of Terok Nor.

He put Bajorans to death, raped their women, and made them grovel at his feet, but if you ask him, he’ll tell you that it was all for the good of the Bajoran people and that he did it all to protect them and always saw himself as a merciful, compassionate overseer who deeply cared for those beneath him. My God, what a fascinating character!

He went so far as to change his appearance so that he could appear Bajoran, to blend in with the Bajoran people, meet Kai Winn, and seduce her so that she would release the Pah Wraiths from their imprisonment in the fire caves on Bajor. Ultimately, it would lead to his own demise, but man did this character keep things interesting for Captain Sisko. A formidable baddie right up to the end!
