Jonathan Frakes and Patrick Stewart are two of the most well-known names in Star Trek history, and they share more than a friendship.

In a June 2023, before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Jonathan Frakes interviewed Patrick Stewart live on stage in Los Angeles as a part of Film Independent presents “Sir Patrick Stewart…In Conversation with Jonathan Frakes.” [via Screenrant]

During the conversation, Frakes brought up his directing, saying he’d directed Stewart in quite a few things.

"Frakes: I went on to direct Patrick in quite a few things. Actually, I have spent more time with you as an actor or director than any other person in my life. And I think the same may be true for you.Stewart: Yeah."

Jonathan Frakes and Patrick Stewart have an incredible bond as friends and family

The pair, along with the rest of the cast from Star Trek: The Next Generation, have spoken about how they have become family. And these aren’t just words. They talk often, get together for dinners, and you can see their chemistry whenever they are together. Like in the video where Frakes is interviewing Stewart. He even introduces him as one of my dearest friends.

As much Star Trek as Frakes has directed, including The Next Generation, two of the Star Trek movies, with Star Trek: First Contact being his best, and Star Trek: Picard, it’s no wonder he’s spent more time with Stewart.

Frakes is continuing on his Trek journey and will be directing upcoming episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and possibly even more of Star Trek: Lower Decks. But what fans really want to see is him move out from behind the camera more as his acting, just like his directing, is flawless. And we need more of Captain Riker, perhaps in a new series like Star Trek: Legacy.

Next. Only Jonathan Frakes could have been second in command. dark
