Does it ever feel like Star Trek fans don't actually like Star Trek? The franchise is nearly 60 years old and has a tried and true formula. It works for the fandom, and when it's done, the fandom receives it warmly. When it's ignored, the series fails to hold the same support by most of the fans.
We know this is the case because we've seen how the fandom has reacted for nearly seven years of the Nu Trek Era. When a show seems like a wild departure of Star Trek, the support isn't there. When it feels more in line with expectations, the support is there. Despite the Trek Method being tried and true, fans are constantly writing about the franchise being different than what it is.
That's like going to Pizza Hut and demanding fried fish. If you want fried fish, go to a fried fish joint. Simple logic. Not here, however. Once again there are fans who are calling for Star Trek to do something it has never done before; make an anthology series. A concept that, frankly, would never work.
For those who aren't sure what a televised anthology series is, there are two pretty well-known examples; American Horror Story and The Twilight Zone. The concept is pretty simple, every episode or new season, new characters and plot lines are introduced. Ones that have no connection to past ones.
This allows for a fresh new take on the series every so often. It can work, but not with Star Trek. These are the three reasons a Star Trek anthology series would not work.
