After Picard, Jeri Ryan was pitched a Star Trek show that wasn't Star Trek: Legacy

There's no denying that fans still want a Star Trek: Legacy show. They continue to talk about it whether on social media or in person at conventions like the most recent one at Spacecon in San Antonio, TX. Jeri Ryan was on a Star Trek: Voyager panel with Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill and was asked a different type of question that wasn't about Legacy. "Has there ever been any talk of a Captain Seven show?" [via Trekmovie] Ryan's response surprised everyone.

"There has been talk. And there was an idea that was actually pitched to me after Picard ended, which was not the Legacy show that I know the fans are asking for, that I want to do. But it just wasn’t me… It didn’t feel like the right kind of thing… But there has been talk. And if there is one thing I have learned with this franchise it is: never say never. You never know."
Jeri Ryan

Ryan made it clear that she wants to do Legacy, and the idea that was pitched to her wasn't what she wanted to do. This shows how strongly Ryan feels about Legacy as turning down the opportunity to do her own Star Trek show had to have been a difficult decision.

What's difficult for fans, though, is knowing that a series was pitched that wasn't at all what the fans want. Obviously the minds behind Star Trek had an idea for a show involving Ryan, and if she'd accepted, that show would have, most likely, moved toward production. So that begs the question: why would the producers offer a show no one wanted instead of a show that everyone wants?

Ryan didn't explain anything further about the exact type of show that was offered, but she did still believes in "never say never." But that's something we've been hearing for quite a while, and there is one other thing that we've learned from Star Trek. It's that if the powers-that-be don't want it to happen, it's not going to happen no matter the potential for the audience.
