Alison Pill didn't appear in the Star Trek: Picard finale for a very obvious reason

Alison Pill wasn't in Star Trek: Picard season three, despite being a major part of the storyline.

It's a little wild to think about how little Alison Pill's Agnes Jurati factored into the show's final season. She didn't appear at all as a character and her impact in the prior seasons was essentially erased from the timeline. She became the Borg Queen. It wasn't a good storyline to get her there, sure. She also looked awful in her full 'Borg Queen outfit' to boot.

That CGI was rough, but still. She was the Borg Queen. Yet, despite season three being about the original Borg Queen's character returning, you'd think there'd be some kind of showdown between the two. Not only did that not happen, but Jurati wasn't even mentioned it felt like. Her character made no impact on the final storyline, even though it was ripe with possibility.

So why was that? Why did they opt to undo an entire season of (bad) storytelling? Especially considering that what came after it was potentially even worse. Well, According to Pill herself, the reasoning is pretty obvious; the scripts were too full with the return of so many characters. Pill told Movieweb;

"I remember those discussions early on, and then, I think, as the scripts were written, they realized it was just too full. So nobody ever kind of revisited bringing, you know, Jurati back for anything else. But I loved playing her. I loved being part of that crew, and I loved being on the La Sirena."

That makes sense. They brought in a lot of returning characters for the final season, and stuck with Seven of Nine, Raffi, and a few others from prior seasons. Most of the new characters that were introduced in season one were essentially pushed aside for the return of the older cast. A move that gave the show some much-needed attention in its final season but a move that also will end up aging as well as warm milk.

The decision to bring in past characters and reject the newer ones ended up hurting the stock of the newer ones. Not only that, but the older cast members saw their characters, for the most part, tainted to some degree. Data became a convoluted mess, while Worf was a shell of himself. Beverly Crusher was insufferable and Deanna Troi did even less this time around as opposed to her first stint with this crew.

It was rough.

And for what? Taking the Enterprise-D out of mothballs or fan service? The first two seasons of Picard weren't great but they should've closed out their stories and saved the reunion for a fantasy that never would've happened.
