#9 - Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) “Rotten” – 55% Tomatometer

This almost “Fresh” third film of the TNG crew, earns a “Rotten” Tomatometer score of 55% in which Captain Picard and his crew uncover a sinister plot on the planet Ba’Ku that threatens the inhabitant’s secret to their immortal-like youth. Also, unique to Star Trek canon we see for the first time the deployment of Captain Picard’s yacht - the Cousteau on a planet landing mission to save the Ba’Kuians.

#8 - Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) “Certified Fresh” – 78% Tomatometer

The first "Certified Fresh" movie on our list with a Tomatometer score of 78%, depicts the TOS crew's mission to find Spock, after his death in Wrath of Khan.  This film is riddled with iconic firsts, from the resurrection of Spock from the effects of the Genesis planet, and his recovery by means of his Katra (Vulcan soul) that was previously transferred to McCoy.

#7 - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) “Certified Fresh” – 81% Tomatometer

With a Tomatometer score of 83% as "Certified Fresh", we find our TOS crew in a stolen Klingon Bird-of-Prey (renamed the HMS Bounty) having traveled beyond Warp-9.8 to 20th Century Earth, via a time warp reconfiguration by Spock. Kirk and crew are tasked with finding a Humpback whale (Cetacea family), before its extinction a century later, in an attempt to use it in their time (23rd Century) to communicate with an alien probe to stop it [alien probe] from vaporizing Earth’s oceans.

#6 - Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) “Certified Fresh” – 83% Tomatometer

This slow-paced, yet high stakes “who done it” (murdered the Klingon Chancellor Gorkon) of an espionage space tale, to my surprise, earned an 83% “Certified Fresh” Tomatometer score. Captain Kirk (William Shatner) of TOS and the crew of Enterprise A find themselves using their diplomatic wits to unravel a scheme to start a war (over peace talks) with the Klingons and the Federation. This Shakespearean overtone plot was a story created by Leonard Nimoy that asked the Hamlet question of “To be, or not to be…” in a thought-provoking ideal of whether one should continue the struggle of living or end life and escape the pain and struggle of living. Yet, the "Undiscovered Country" of a future peace between the Klingons and the Federation may just prevail.

#5 - Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) "Certified Fresh – 84% Tomatometer

Coming in "Certified Fresh" with a Tomatometer score of 84% is the first on our list to represent the rebooted TOS Kelvin timeline (created by Star Trek 2009).  Into Darkness creates intrigue and cinematic tension with a brash Starfleet rules-breaking Captain Kirk (recast with Chris Pine), and a rogue Starfleet Admiral in command of a Dreadnought-class starship (solely designed for combat) who is determined to start a war with the Klingons. Not to mention a revengeful genetically enhanced leader of the Augments (Khan Noonien Singh) whose prime directive is to kill any species he deems inferior to his.
