Go inside Star Trek The Art of Glenn Hetrick's Alchemy Studios for a look at prosthetics
It's amazing the things artists can create when it comes to the aliens we see on Star Trek. Their unique talents are on display when we see an Andorian, a Kelpian, and a Lurian. Star Trek: Discovery was particularly known for its vast array of aliens, and that was thanks to Glenn Hetrick who is CEO of Alchemy FX Studios and a special makeup effects artist/designer.
In the coffee table book, Star Trek The Art of Glenn Hetrick's Alchemy Studios Revealing the Magic of Prosthetic Makeup by Joe Nazzaro, we get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the best work Hetrick and his team brought to the screen. And, yes, they were responsible for the new look of the Klingons, but they also created so much more that is worthy of awe! I mean, Osnullus was an incredible-looking alien and required quite a bit of work!
In Star Trek The Art of Glenn Hetrick's Alchemy Studios Revealing the Magic of Prosthetic Makeup, you'll see not only the creation process along with art and photography, you'll also learn, directly from Hetrick and his team, how these aliens came to be. And what they consider to be their "greatest triumph." I'll give you a hint: It has to do with Saurian brandy and the aliens behind it who have never been seen before Star Trek: Discovery.
This 192 page hardcover book explores all five seasons of Star Trek: Discovery from the design concept to the actual creation of the aliens such as Saru, one of my favorite characters, and Linus. The studio even took things all the way back to the Talosians which were first seen in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode. "The Menagerie," although they were first used in the original pilot "The Cage."
