Martha Hackett appeared in thirteen episodes of Star Trek: Voyager as a Maquis that was actually a Cardassian. Prior to that, she was in two episodes of Star Trek; Deep Space Nine as T'Rul. And since her time on Voyager, she has continued with voice appearances in several Star Trek games, including Star Trek: Elite Force II. But after Deep Space Nine and before she was cast on Voyager, she was set to play a Tarellian named Androna in the series finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
According to Hackett, in an interview she gave to Starlog's Star Trek: Voyager Magazine, she spent six and a half hours in the make-up chair for the alien part, shot the scene in fifteen minutes, then spent another two hours in the chair to have all of the make-up removed. All of that and the scene ended up being cut due to time constraints. Obviously, the Tarellian Hackett was going to portray was much different than those seen in earlier episodes of The Next Generation as Hackett described make-up that "totally obliterated my lips, nose, and eyebrows." She went on to say that the "end result was really quite beautiful, elaborately painted with a lot of purples, greens, and gold."
Hackett wasn't disappointed that the scene was cut since she felt that "the focus deserved to be on the main characters in their final story." Originally, the deleted scene was supposed to appear twoard the end of the episode when ships from the Alpha Quadrant were coming together at the temporal anomaly.
Fortunately, though, this deleted scene and Hackett's lack of complaint about all the time spent in the make-up chair may have contributed to her start in Star Trek as she was cast as the subcommander T'Rul on Deep Space Nine. Still, the way she describes her make-up for the Tarellian, it's a shame we didn't get to see it.
