More romance is coming to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in season three

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has already begun to explore relationships that were only hinted at in Star Trek: The Original Series. We saw the unrequited love Nurse Chapel [Majel Barrett Roddenberry] had for Leonard Nimoy's Spock and caught a glimpse of T'Pring [Arlene Martel], who was Spock's prearranged partner. Strange New Worlds took both of those further and gave us full relationships.

After Spock's [Ethan Peck] romance with his fiance T'Pring [Gia Sandhu] fizzled, Spock and Jess Bush's Christine Chapel began a romantic relationship that also didn't last very long. At theSaturn Awards ceremony, Screenrant spoke with Peck who said "there's more explorationa of romantic partnerships" in season three, but he didn't specify whether that was related to his character.

Christina Chong [La'an] spoke up and did say that her character "is involved in more romance this season." The last bit of romance she had was in an alternate universe with Paul Wesley's Lt. Kirk. Then, back in their own reality, Kirk broke her heart by telling her he was involved with someone. There's always the possibility that Kirk chooses to end his relationship with Carol Marcus [who hasn't appeared on the series as of yet] and then pursues one with La'an.

Melissa Navia chose to remain virtually mum when asked what she could tease about the new season of the series, saying "I can say nothing." Does that hint at a romance for Lt. Ortegas, too? Peck did confirm that there is "definitely more Ortegas" this season, which has been a long time coming. Hopefully, it's her time to shine!

With so many potential pairings aboard the Enterprise, there's really no telling who will be paired up. But any romances based on the main characters from Star Trek: The Original Series won't last as it would have been reflected in the follow-up movies. Of course, there's always a chance SNW producers could choose to shift canon around a bit, but that might not go over so well with fans.
