Nacelle brings A-game for waves 3 and 4 of Star Trek action figure line

While fans patiently await the release of its first wave of Star Trek action figures, Nacelle is already getting us hyped for waves 3 and 4!

After several months with relatively little news regarding Star Trek action figures, the Nacelle Company has taken the convention season by storm, beginning with a reveal of their wave 3 and 4 lineups at San Diego Comic-Con last month, and following that up with further details (and prototypes!) at this past weekend’s STLV: Trek to Vegas 2025.

To start, let’s go over the lineups. Wave 3 will consist of the entire main cast of the original Star Trek, as the series marks its 60th anniversary next year. Per StarTrek.com, the characters will be in their standard uniforms from TOS, and the roster includes:

  • Captain James T. Kirk
  • Mr. Spock
  • Dr. Leonard McCoy
  • Lieutenant Nyota Uhura
  • Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu
  • Ensign Pavel Chekov
  • Lt. Commander Montgomery “Scotty” Scott
  • Nurse Christine Chapel
  • Yeoman Janice Rand
  • A surprise 2-pack

Of course, we can only speculate which characters will be in the 2-pack at this time. I have two pairs I’m hoping for, personally. One is Dr. Crater and the salt monster from “The Man Trap,” which was the first Star Trek episode to air. The other is Spock’s parents, Sarek and Amanda, as they appeared in the season 2 episode “Journey to Babel.” We’ll just have to wait and see what the true answer is!

Wave 4 returns to Nacelle’s mix-and-match format, as they’re doing for Waves 1 and 2. This means a selection of characters from the various “classical” Star Trek series and films (TOS through Enterprise), sometimes in variant outfits. This line will include:

  • Benjamin Sisko from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (seemingly Season 5+, based on the picture used)
  • Saavik from Star Trek III & Star Trek IV (i.e., the Robin Curtis version)
  • Beverly Crusher (TNG, “Sub Rosa” Edition)
  • Data (Star Trek Generations, Sailor Edition)
  • David Marcus from Star Trek II
  • Jean-Luc Picard (Star Trek: First Contact, Little Ships Edition)
  • John Harriman from Star Trek Generations
  • Tom Paris (Voyager, Captain Proton Edition)
  • Pavel Chekov (Star Trek IV, Nuclear Wessels Edition)
  • Hoshi Sato (Enterprise, “In A Mirror, Darkly” Edition)

I’m interested to see if the Captain Proton Tom Paris is rendered in grayscale, to match the black and white look of the holodeck program featured in various Voyager episodes. I will also say that, as a Hoshi Sato fan, I would have liked for them to release a “standard” Hoshi figure first, but I’ll concede that a Mirror Hoshi will match the Mirror Universe Archer coming in Wave 1 of Nacelle’s line.

Overall, these upcoming waves are very exciting and feel like a good balance, compared to the Wave 1 lineup, which I still say leans too far into eclectic and obscure characters. Offering a whole wave of TOS characters in their standard uniforms is an inspired way to honor 60 years of Star Trek. (I’ll just have to be prepared to buy that whole wave, if I can.)

Along with announcing the new waves at SDCC, Nacelle shared renders and prototypes of their upcoming Star Trek action figures at STLV this past weekend. Notably, a prototype figure of Nog, from wave 2, shows an impressive likeness of the late Aron Eisenberg as the iconic Ferengi, while Uhura is shown ready for action while holding a seldom-used TOS phaser rifle.

All of the figures appear set to come with a plethora of accessories. In fact, the Sailor Edition of Worf, from Star Trek Generations, appears to come with a swappable torso, so that he can be shown either with or without a coat. Swappable hands and even heads are common for action figures, but a swappable torso is a new one for me.

While all evidence suggests that Nacelle’s Star Trek line will be fun and look great, they still have yet to release the first wave, which remains in pre-order with a ship date of Q4 (October–December). As exciting as the new wave announcements are, it is hard to judge the quality of the figures without any in hand. The future of Star Trek action figures seems bright, but patience is key.
