If there is anyone who liked the series finale of Star Trek: Enterprise, they haven't been very vocal about it. For the most part, fans abhorred the last episode...even the actors, with some seeing it as a slap in the face. But while the story was lacking, Linda Park, who played Ensign Hoshi on the series, didn't mind the filming of the series finale as it brought back some friends. Due to her connection to some of the Star Trek; The Next Generation actors, whether through working with them or being friends with them, Park felt like the finale was "like friends coming to hang out some more."
The actors weren't blamed for the finale. That lay solely at the feet of Brannon Braga and Rick Berman, and it was a tough pill to swallow for all of us who felt the cast of Enterprise took a back seat to The Next Generation guest stars. But Park saw the good in what was happening even though she said she "did feel like an extra in a TNG story," according to an interview she gave Startrek.com [via Slashfilm].
Park explained, "We hadn't bonded with any of the other casts, really, except for the 'Next Generation' cast. It was for a couple of reasons. Marina and I ended up doing a small movie together, so I knew her previously. Michael Dorn and I were friends, and we had the same publicist for a while. Brent Spiner had been on a few episodes, and he was so funny and wonderful. LeVar Burton had directed the show. There was a lot of crossover even before the finale had happened, and so we welcomed them with open arms because they were like friends coming to hang out some more."
Along with Connor Trinneer, who has said before that he was satisified with the ending his character of Trip Tucker received, Park is one of the only actors from Enterprise who had something good to say about the finale. Both John Billingsley and Travis Montgomery have previously said the finale should have been longer than an hour with Montgomery adding that he would not have had Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis come on for the finale episode.
We won't ever get an Enterprise finale do-over, but as I've mentioned before, it would be nice if any of these actors got a coda of some sort on another Star Trek series. With the exception of Phlox and T'Pol, most of the characters would be dead by the 24th century, but, as we all know, there are ways to integrate these characters into a current series so that we could, at the very least, learn what happened in their futures.
