Picture of the remaining Star Trek: TOS' actors on the bridge of the Enterprise garners over 2M views
Star Trek: The Original Series first aired in 1966, over fifty-eight years ago. The series starred William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols, Majel Barret-Roddenberry, James Doohan, and George Takei. Although the focus of the show was mainly on Shatner, Nimoy, and Kelley, the other actors appeared in many of the series' seventy-nine episodes. And it's been a long while since we've seen all of them together on the original bridge of the Enterprise.
In Ticonderoga, NY, you can tour the set of the series which has been painstakingly recreated using blueprints and thousands of photographs. It was there that a picture was taken of the three surviving members of the cast—Shatner, Koenig, and Takei, and it was shared to Twitter/X by a Star Trek fan back in September of this year.
The picture has garnered over 2.5 million views and 65,000 likes. With Koenig and Takei at the helm, Shatner takes his place in the captain's chair where his character, Captain James T. Kirk led the Enterprise for the entirety of the series and six additional movies.
Seeing the image of these three men, the last of the series that started this ongoing franchise, is bittersweet as while we're grateful they're still with us, it's a stark reminder of the ones we've lost. The bright shining lights of the actors that, along with Shatner, Koenig, and Takei, brought this show to life will never be extinguished, though, as we have hours upon hours of episodes, movies, and interviews to watch.
This is truly an iconic image, and one that puts aside whatever ill will still remains among the actors and gives us what very well may be a last look at Captain Kirk, Ensign Chekov, and Lt. Sulu back in action. Special thanks to the fan for sharing this image and for James Cawley vision to create the Star Trek: The Original Series Set Tour.
