3 of the most controversial people to ever appear in Star Trek
By Chad Porto
Stephen Collins
Andy Dick is a byproduct of an addiction, while Jennifer Lien has serious mental health issues. Yet, Stephen Collins is just a downright monster. Collins spent some time in the late 1970s as a member of Star Trek, playing the captain of the Enterprise Willard Decker. Originally the character was meant for Star Trek: Phase II, but would be reworked into the captain we'd see during Star Trek The Motion Picture.
Collins played a huge role in the film but his character was effectively killed off at the end of the movie. The character was a solid addition to the film, but he's never been revisited since. That's partly because of the connection the Deckerr character has with Collins.
See, unlike Dick and Lien, who have a history of drug abuse and mental health issues, Collins has no such defense. Not that their behavior is excusable, but you can at least see why they keep repeating their pattern of bad behaviors. Collins? He's just not a good man.
In 2014, the NYPD started investigating him for prior sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 14. While we can sit here and paint a pretty picture with words like "alleged", Collins himself has admitted to such acts. After the LAPD got involved, but couldn't build a case against him, Collins went to People Magazine of all places to do an interview.
In that interview, Collins admitted to "inappropriate sexual conduct" with three different minor girls, decades apart from one another. He claims it only happened in 1973, 1982 and 1994. Though who's to say if that's truly all of the victims he's encountered?
Collins has been out of the public eye for over a decade now and hasn't been in any television or film role since 2014. His once pristine and squeaky-clean image is long dead.
