4 other sports teams we'd love to see Star Trek sponsor

Star Trek sponsored a soccer team in Berlin, and boy, does that give us ideas.

3. New York Jets - Football (NFL)

When Aaron Rodgers isn't spewing conspiracy theories or tearing his ankle into splinters, he's the quarterback of the New York (New Jersey) Jets. They're one of the most anticipated clubs of the upcoming 2024 season and may be good enough to not only make the playoffs but also contend for the Super Bowl.

Like the NHL's Jets, however, they make the list in part due to their name and the closeness that aeronautics have with astronautics. Aeronautics is the study of movement through the air, while astronautics is the study of movement through space. Star Trek is obviously about space exploration, but the Jets are two of the closest we found while exploring fitting brand partnerships.

The NFL Jets had an up-and-down 2023, going 7-10, while players like Bryce Hall, Garrett Wilson, and C.J. Moslely led the team in rushing yards, receiving yards, and tackles, but inconsistency at quarterback doomed them from the start. After Rodgers, the team's big acquisition went down with an injury, they relied on former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson, who struggled to perform well.

While the Winnipeg team is by far a better fit for Star Trek, due to their winning ways, the Jets are a bigger brand and their name makes a bit more sense.

The Jets, then known as The Titans, started playing in New York City at Shea Stadium, the then-home of the New York Mets. As the story goes, the team's new owner Sonny Werblin opted to name the NFL team and realized that Jets rhymed with Mets and a subpar football franchise was born.
