5 Star Trek announcements we hope to get at the New York Comic Con
By Chad Porto
Star Trek fans are reading for potential the last major news date of the year; the New York Comic Con. Usually a quiet affair, the event is usually Star Trek's last stop on the road to the end of the year. The franchisee usually gets most of its news out at the San Diego Comic-Con or one of the more major Star Trek-focused conventions, but in recent years the NYCC has started to develop a reputation as a news-heavy affair.
Last year, of course, was the Kid Cudi X Star Trek crossover. While that may not be a huge hit among fans, it was a seriously significant event, This year may not be very different in that regard. There could be some major pieces of news to come out of the event, especially with the Lower Decks finale coming days later.
So here are five things we hope to see at the event.
First look at Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
We're not expecting a lot, but we could see our first official look at some cast and crew photos. It'd be nice to see the roster of talent in their Star Trek costumes, or maybe some production images from the first episode they shot. Assuming they've even begun filming in earnest by then.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds teaser
We're a while away from the third season of Strange New Worlds, but it does appear that the show is well underway, filming its next installment. A full trailer would be foolish to expect, but maybe a brief shot of the crew doing something could make its way to the event in New York City. Even if it's not much, it may hold us over until the series is ready to release a more substantial trailer.
The official date for Star Trek: Section 31
We're waiting patiently for Section 31 to truly give our take on whether the made-for-streaming film was worth the cost of it. We got a trailer and a general time frame, but we still don't know when the show is coming exactly. We just know that it's early 2025. We're hoping that the NYCC will give us a more exact date and time. Even if not, then maybe just a month in 2025 to expect it.
Any announcement on the dueling Star Trek films
We've heard anywhere from three to upwards of five or six films are in various phases of development. We know Section 31 is screen-bound soon, of course, the long-gestating Star Trek 4 and the prequel film that no one is really excited about. Plus, we've heard rumblings of a few other potential projects, which we may know more about after Section 31 drops. Yet, while we'll have to wait for some to be announced, others like Star Trek, could happen tomorrow if Paramount was able to get things in line. We're hoping that the NYCC finally announces Star Trek 4 or some other franchise film installment.
An announcement of a third-season for Star Trek: Prodigy
The title says it all.
