There are rumors that a fourth Star Trek film is in the works that would feature the returning crew of the last three films; Star Trek 2009, Into Darkness and Beyond. This fourth film would go hand in hand with a new project, set decades before the 2009 film, that would feature on a whole new cast and crew. We're not sure if they're going to be a new crew but familiar characters (Captain Christopher Pike for instance) or if they're going to go all original, which is the best direction they could go in.
But regardless of which direction they go in, apparently, the rumors of the two new films is news to some of its stars. Namely Zoe Saldana. The woman who plays Nyota Uhura in the new film franchise, dubbed the Kelvin Timeline by fans, hasn't heard anything about the fourth film, sharing her thoughts on playing Uhura one more time with comicbook.com, saying;
"I know. I mean I heard what you heard in the trades. I just heard that they’re gearing up to do a new one with a younger sort of, take on it. Like it’s been off. I don’t know if it’s from the before or the after, but that they really still hope to grab all of us veterans and bring us back for one last round. Listen, I know it’s a lot to wrangle a whole bunch of people with busy schedules. But, working with J.J. Abrams, and for J.J. Abrams at Bad Robot was always just a wonderful and beautiful experience for me. So, if I get to do that one last time, I would be so grateful."
Hearing her say that she's not heard anything about the project, outside of the acting trade publications that post news that anyone can read is a terribly shocking revelation. She's essentially saying that Paramount Global hasn't reached out to her or presumably her castmates, despite their once again putting out the news that the fourth film is in the works.
After all, those revelations about upcoming projects get leaked on purpose (a lot of times anyway) and so for the news to come out once again that there are two new films on the way, that's a sign that the studio is on the verge of repeating the same mistakes from 2022, when they announced the fourth film without actually nailing down the cast first.
With all the turmoil going around at Paramount Global, they can't afford to fumble this bag again.
