San Diego Comic-Con has come and gone. The biggest takeaway from the weekend? The return of Robert Downey Jr. to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dr. Doom. Does that casting make sense? No, but it's a desperate move by a desperate brand. One we can recognize all too well. The toast of the town was the MCU as the annual July convention came to a close but that doesn't mean that Star Trek didn't make their moves at the event.
They were there in force, with a nearly 90-minute event that featured a rotating group of panelists from the Star Trek universe. During the event, multiple major items were shown off, hinted at our outright announcement. So much so that if you're just picking up stuff on social media or looking through a given website, you may be unable to find everything that was announced.
So we're here to help you out. We're going through every major announcement and putting them all together in one easy-to-find spot.
New Show in Development
A new show is in early development which will feature Tawny Newsome of Star Trek: Lower Decks and Justin Simien of Haunted Mansion fame. Newsome of course was one of the lead voices on Lower Decks, but she may not be appearing in the new show. Instead, she's going to help create it. For those of you who may have forgotten, Newsome was helping write Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Clearly, her time with the show has led to people thinking she should help create a show. Creating a pure-comedy series in Star Trek is always an uphill battle, especially since the series is more about morality than it is knee-slapping humor.
