Jack Quaid is hopeful Star Trek: Lower Decks will find a new home

Since Paramount+ announced the cancellation of Star Trek: Lower Decks, fans have started a campaign to save the series, possibly getting it picked up by another streaming channel like Star Trek: Prodigy did after it was cancelled last year. Though the animated comedy isn't every fan's cup of tea, it does have dedicated viewers who want to see the adventures of the Cerritos crew continue. Jack Quaid, who portrays now Lt. Boimler, is one of them.

Earlier this month, Quaid addressed the cancellation of the series on his Instagram page, letting fans know just how much he loved playing "the purple-haired nerd."

Quaid clearly isn't done with with Lt. Boimler, much like viewers. And he is hopeful the series can find a new home. There's no indication as to whether or not Lower Decks is currently being shopped to other streaming channels, and there's doubt that it will be continued after season five concludes. But the landscape of television and streaming has been beyond weird the past few months so anything is possible.

Take S.W.A.T. for instance. The CBS cop drama starring Shemar Moore was cancelled after six seasons then, with a lot of help from fans, was brought back for a shortened final season seven to wrap up the series. Or what was supposed to be the final season. Now, the series has been renewed for a full twenty-two episode season eight because of ratings both on CBS and on streaming channels. That's not to say that Paramount+ will reverse the cancellation of Lower Decks, but, based on the upcoming audience for Lower Decks, there may be life at other streamers.

Animation is costly to produce, but, with a built-in audience, it might be considered cost-worthy by other channels, especially Netflix who is already behind Star Trek: Prodigy, picking it up after a massive fan campaign to save it. So let's not count Lower Decks out just yet. With cast, crew, and fans behind it, it could live to make people laugh another day!
