John de Lancie and Ed Speleers view a potential Star Trek: Legacy differently
By Chad Porto
Will there be a new Star Trek series that follows in the footsteps of Star Trek: Picard? It's the topic of much debate, with some suggesting that if it was going to happen it would've happened by now and others claiming a formal announcement could be coming as early as this summer. There's no reason to believe either side, so until we have news it's coming, just assume it's not.
That said, the question about the show's potential or lack thereof has even affected the cast. During the Star Trek cruise, the cast came together and talked about a variety of topics, and it appears that several members of Picard had very different thoughts on if the show would happen.
According to TrekMovie.com, John de Lancie isn't too concerned about whether it happens or not, going on to compare the show to the idea of an invitation for a dinner party, saying;
"I have no idea. I wouldn’t be the last to know. And I never think about it because as far as I’m concerned, it is being concerned about whether you’re going to get invited to somebody’s dinner party. You can’t spend your life being concerned about things like that."
Clearly de Lancie would like to return but isn't hanging his hat on the possibility of it happening. Ed Speleers, however, had a different take, hoping that the party happens and that he's invited, saying;
"I hope, I know we did mention about dinner parties but I really, really hope we have a massive dinner party coming on."
Regardless of how each actor views the situation, what isn't up in the air is that no one knows if this show is going to happen. A rumor broke that the show was formally picked up and a formal announcement is coming this summer, but with the cost-cutting going on at Paramount Global that rumor may be just that.
