Janeway back in live action. It's something we fanas have been wanting for as long as Star Trek: Voyager has been off the air. We weren't ready for the series to end when it did and would have been more than happy to watch seven more years of adventures with Captain Kathryn Janeway and her crew. While we, most likely, won't see another Voyager like the one that debuted in 1995 (and are hoping we never see a reboot with an all new cast), we would be thrilled to see a series that brings Kate Mulgrew back to our television as the live action Admiral Janeway.

She is certainly loved on Star Trek: Prodigy, having played dual roles as Hologram Janeway and Admiral Janeway, and we don't want anything to happen to Star Trek: Prodigy, but we will always want her back on the bridge of a starship, taking her crew on yet another journey. And, believe it or not, it could happen. But the storyline would have to be "impeccable" according to Mulgrew as she's not coming back just to come back because she loves the character too much.

According to an interview she gave Trekmovie, Mulgrew was extremely firm in what would be required for her to don the uniform again.

" It would have to be impeccable. It would have to be without hubris. It would have to be authentic. And it would have to be so bloody good that I would in no way question any element of it. I mean, to come back after 25 years, into a character that was once you know that I’m not only revered but by me, loved by me. I have to take care of my character. So I’ve just said to Alex, you know, I love her. She will never be misused, but she must be exalted. And the writing has to be somewhere from heaven. "

Those are strict requirements, but they're also fair requirements. Janeway was one of the most beloved captains on a Star Trek series. Even many of those who swore to never watch Voyager and finally gave it a try have become diehard fans. So it's understandable why Mulgrew would be protective of this character. She has a legacy to look out for.

To that end, will a live-action series with Kate Mulgrew ever happen? The conversations are ongoing, and with the recent success of Star Trek: Picard, I would like to think the odds are in our favor.
