Star Trek Day is almost upon us. Celebrated every year on September 8th, this day is a reminder of when Star Trek: The Original Series aired its first episode, "The Man Trap," in 1966 and launched a franchise that is still going strong. But September 8th is so much more than just a day Star Trek launched. It was the beginning of an adventure that has stretched over television, movies, conventions, virtual-cons, autograph signings, pictures with the stars, and so much more.

Star Trek is a global phenomenon with fans across almost every corner of the world. And Star Trek day memoralizes that special moment before anyone ever realized just how special this franchise was going to be.

In honor of the day it all began, Paramount is making available almost all of the premiere episodes of almost every series from Star Trek free. [via Gizmodo] Right now, you have to have a subscription to Paramount+ to watch most of the Trek series, but beginning September 7 and running until September 13, you can watch some of the best Trek free on Amazon, Apple, Roku, Paramount+’s official YouTube page, Pluto TV, and on the Paramount+free content hub (US only).

Here's what you you can watch, all of which are excellent viewing. Note that Paramount is making available the original pilot of The Original Series, "The Cage," which did not release on September 8th.

  • STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES, “The Cage”
  • STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, “Encounter at Farpoint Part I & II”
  • STAR TREK: VOYAGER, “Caretaker Part I & II”
  • STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE, “The Emissary Part I & II”
  • STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE, “Broken Bow Part I & II”
  • STAR TREK: THE ANIMATED SERIES, “Beyond the Farthest Star”
  • STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS, “Strange New Worlds”
  • STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS, “Second Contact”
  • STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, “The Vulcan Hello”

Sadly, here's what you can't watch: STAR TREK: PRODIGY "Lost and Found I&II." Fortunately, those of us with a Netflix subscription can watch all forty episodes of this spectacular series any time we want. Still, the premiere episodes should have been made available for free on the other streaming channels.

Paramount is also making available five episodes of Short Treks: The Girl Who Made the Stars,” “The Trouble with Edward,” “Ask Not,” “Runaway” and “Ephraim and Dot."
