Ranking every lead character from the Nu Trek era of Star Trek characters

#5 Jean-Luc Picard
Jean-Luc Picard would be much higher pre-Picard days. It's no longer the case with his latest go-around.
Looking at the show and how they designed him, he was constantly in a drab black-looking attire, rarely ever dawning anything unique. Even when he switched over to Federation-based garb, he mostly wore a muted and unimpressive coat. It felt more like Starfleet Casual Friday than anything. In the few scenes, he actually wore a Starfleet outfire that was bold, he looked fantastic, but that was few and far between.
He's no longer the actor he once was. It's a sad reality that he's not the same actor anymore, but as people age, their natural talents do decline. We see this a lot with athletics, but people forget (or don't know) how physical acting is. Time has caught up with him. He's quieter and more reserved. He's not able to reach the same physical heights he once did. A good comparison would be to listen to him in the first season of American Dad and do so again in the latest season. He no longer has the same energy anymore at 83 years old, can anyone blame him?
Picard's personality is pretty tepid in the series. He does come to life a little bit with the reunion season, but even then the way he just let Beverly Crusher deny him of his child for three decades is a clear sign this isn't the same Picard. The man just rolled when deprived of a basic fatherly right. It was sad to watch.
Picard made no real impression on his show, at least not to the levels of William Ryker and Data. There truly was a bond between those characters. Now, not so much. The shorter seasons and the decision to replace the cast between seasons two and three didn't help.
Still, despite all that, Picard is the sole reason anyone tuned in for the first two seasons. He was the draw of the show.
