"To be or not to be, that is the question"...and that question revolves around Star Trek: Legacy. Will it happen? Will it not? Not even Billy Shakespeare could answer that question and he's the one who penned that famous line. Yet, we sit and we wait and we sit and we wait about news to come about Legacy. It's not something we've heard much about since Picard ended, and it did end in a way that a spinoff was seemingly coming.

Yet, no spinoff came. At least not yet. It's been so long in fact that the stars of the prior show, Picard, don't think it's coming. Marina Sirtis, who played Deanna Troi in both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Picard, truly believes the spinoff is dead. Now, how much involvement she and the rest of her castmates from TNG and Picard had is anyone's guess, but they'd have at least shown up once, right?

The show would focus on the younger characters that debuted in Picard, and they would serve on a ship that had Seven of Nine as captain. With the financial troubles at Paramount Global and the potential sale (or merger), it's unlikely that Star Trek has five shows in active development at the same time ever again. The money and viewership just isn't there. So we're not surprised that Legacy hasn't been announced yet, as there are a few shows still being made.

Yet, not all believe the show is dead. Now, take this with the most grains of salt you can, but there is one source out there who apparently has heard that the show is being made. SciTrek a Star Trek fan on YouTube, is claiming that the show is going forward. Apparently, he heard from a source at Amazon and Paramount that Legacy is in fact happening.

He claims that the holdup was due to money and that Paramount didn't want to pay for it, at least all of it. Not only that, but he also claims that a Star Trek: Picard film will in fact happen, and it'll be set after the events of season one of Legacy.

Now, it's important to note, that the report this YouTuber claims is that the show is going to be on the screens for fans by the end of 2025. Not only that, but Amazon will be putting up 30% of the cost to make the show, and in turn, will get international distribution rights. He's also claiming that Amazon will have the first-run rights for the Picard film, making fans get Amazon Prime to watch the film.

Picard showrunner, Terry Matalas, is allegedly the name attached to the projects as well. Filming is expected to begin in early summer and formally announced later on.

Who knows if any of this is true, it's hard to say how credible SciTrek is as a source. They've not been a name cited or sourced before. So we'll all find out how accurate this report is at the same time. It should be noted that he does claim that a sale or merger could affect the plans of these Picard and Legacy projects.
