Star Trek is an iconic brand, that has launched several imitators during its time. From featured films to television series, it appears as science fiction as we know it wouldn't look the way it does without Star Trek. While honest, true attempts to capture the magic of the franchise have been attempted elsewhere, it's with the more comedic attemps we find the most earnest ones as well.
Shows like The Orville started as a humorous version of the series, but it started to gravitate more towards the show it tried to emulate. It's been a hit. One that fans are hoping for more from in the coming months Yet, before there was The Orville, there was Galaxy Quest.
The film featured Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver at the apex of their careers, playing actors who were most well-known for appearing in a Star Trek-like show from the early 1980s. Allen played the William Shatner stand-in to much praise and while the film isappointed at the box office in 1999, it earned itself a strong fanbase 25 years later.
In honor of that 25th anniversary, it appears as though the worlds of Galaxy Quest and Star Trek are colliding in the latest update for the game Star Trek Fleet Command. The crossover event will be part of the 69th update of the game and will feature the ship from the film, the NSEA Protector, the main villain of the film, Sarris, as well as enemy vessels seen in the film.
Not only that, but the three main characters of the film; Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen's character), Gwen DeMarco (Weaver's), and Sir Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman's character) will also be featured. As will Laliari, one of the alien allies that rope the actors into an actual space conflict. While the video game characters look enough alike to their film counterparts, you can tell some minor changes were made to avoid any issues with the talent.
