It's very likely that by the end of San Diego Comic-Con, we will know when Star Trek: Lower Decks is going to call it a series. The fifth and final season will air sometime in 2024, and we'll likely get an announcement of when exactly at the annual event in California. When Lower Decks finally closes for good, Prodiy will likely be the only animated show left in the Star Trek universe.

That is, assuming it isn't canceled by Netflix. While the mass-release of shows is an outdated and short-sighted concept for most digital series, Netflix still clings to it. Effectively hindering shows like Prodigy that thrive off of engagement week after week by a dedicated fandom. It's hurt some of the online discourse and interaction of the franchise, as everyone is at different points in the discussion and there isn't one tangible point that everyone is currently on together.

Yet, despite that, it is still out here earning awards. According to Trek Movie, the newly created Collision Awards selected both Lower Decks and Prodigy as "gold" winners for their respective series. Prodigy earned theirs in the category of Kids & Family Television Series, while Lower Decks earned theirs for Comedy Television Series.

Unlike other conventional awards, this isn't about one winner, but about the best groups of winners. Lower Decks shared their gold standard with Captain Fall, while d00dbuffett earned a silver. Prodiggy earned their gold alongside The Loud House: "Candy Crushed" and the Mindful Adventures of Unicorn Island, while five other shows won silver (Big Blue, Best and Bester, Cracké Family Scramble, Isadora Moon, and Super Wish.)

It's a clear sign that Prodigy is being viewed by the industry as a high-quality show. So it's very possible, downright likely, that Netflix picks up the franchise for a third season. If that does come to pass, and Prodigy gets another season at least, then we'll be in for some quality animation from the Star Trek brand.

A third season likely leads to more, especially with Prodigy being likely to earn more nominations and awards across the industry. If they continue to impress, then it seems all but certain they'll have a home for a few more seasons.
