Star Trek: Prodigy's long-awaited second season releases July 1 and after being teased for the last few months, we finally have the first real look of the season. The second season will air on Netflix and with it, comes the hopes of a brighter tomorrow for the Star Trek brand. Limited by a poor streaming service, Star Trek has struggled to raise its viewership beyond the expected, with Prodigy being one of the biggest casualties of a paywall.

While they won't be free to see on Netflix, that streaming platform offers nearly three times the potential eyeballs as Paramount+. Making it the perfect place for a show like this to thrive and survive. Eyes on the product will be a major reason this show gets a still-unannounced third season, and if the trailer is any indication, fans will love what they see.

The trailer is jam-packed with excitement, that fans old and new alike will love to see.

In the trailer, we see time travel, daring rescues, chases, and our beloved Chakotay. This time with a new beard. All things that fans of the first season are ready to see. The official description of the show promises a time paradox storyline that should take up a good deal of time this season. This means the potential for cameos, returns, and new ideas are bountiful.

The series will also see the return of every major voice actor from season one. Brett Gray is back as Dal, as is co-star Ella Purnell once again as Gwyn). The rest of the crew is back as well, with Angus Imrie back as Zero, Rylee Alazarqui as Rok-Tahk, Jason Mantzoukas as Jankom Pog, and Dee Bradley Baker as Murf. Surprisingly, John Noble and Jimmi Simpson will return as the Diviner and Drednok respectively.

Season two will also see the return of several Star Trek stars, like Kate Mulgrew, reprising her role as Kathryn Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager. Also from Voyager, will be Robert Picardo reprising his role as The Doctor, and Robert Beltran as Chakotay.

Fellow Star Trek alums Jason Alexander, Ronny Cox, and Jameela Janil will also be back, reprising former characters previously seen on Prodigy.
