Star Trek: Section 31 not bringing back Ash Tyler was certainly a decision

Star Trek: Section 31 isn't bringing back the character Ash Tyler, a likely mistake.

Star Trek: Section 31 is the culmination of the Star Trek: Discovery storyline, with Michelle Yeoh returning to the franchise in what will likely be her final role as her character Philippa Georgiou. With the fate of Paramount+ getting dimmer and dimmer with each passing week, it's unlikely a sequel to the streaming-exclusive Section 31 film will happen. This means any and all plot lines should likely be wrapped up when the film airs.

But that's not going to happen.

The cast list for Section 31 has recently dropped and it's got a lot of new characters, and a lot of fantastic talents but one name isn't on the list; Shazad Latif. Latif, for those who didn't know, played Ash Tyler on Star Trek: Discovery and was at one point expected to be a major player in the Section 31 film.

But that didn't happen. Instead, he was left out in the lurch and the film will focus on a whole new aspect of Yeoh's Georgiou character.

Considering that the Ash Tyler character was named the head of Section 31, and due to his long-standing relationship with the Discovery lead Michael Burnham, you'd think that the character would be a pretty big deal to the storyline. That's not the case, and instead, you can look forward to a cast that seems to be on the lighter side of things. Specifically with Sam Richardson, who is a fantastic comedic actor.

While production has started, the cast has been picked and the film will debut on Paramount+ (hopefully) before any major changes happen at Paramount Global, we still don't know what the plot is about or how it'll have changed from what we expected the original concept to be when it was first announced.

The idea was originally a show but due to a variety of reasons, the show was made into a film. We'll see if that film was worth the wait.
