Star Trek: Starfleet Academy announces 2 new up-and-comers for cast
By Chad Porto
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is coming together nicely. The series was announced in March of 2023, and over the last three months, we've found out more and more details. We know the show is supposed to happen right after the events of Star Trek: Discovery in the timeline. We also know there is a small chance that several Discovery characters crossover into the series.
Since May we also know what the cast looks like. Holly Hunter, the lead of the series, was the first one to be announced in May. June would see the series antagonist for the first season, acclaimed actor Paul Giamatti. Then in early July, we found out three of the young cades for the franchise would be Bella Shepard, Kerrice Brooks, and George Hawkins.
That sets the cast at five. Now, thanks to another press release, we know who our sixth and seventh members of the cast will be.
The first name according to Variety is Karim Diane, who is most famous for Peacock's "One of Us Is Lying" series, in which he appeared in 13 episodes of the series. Variety also notes that Diane was originally a member of the X-Factor television series. His next project to debut is a television series called "1266", featuring Gabourey Sidibe.
The second name according to Variety is up-and-comer Zoë Steiner. She's made far less of a footprint than Diane, as she's only been in one full-fledged project, a six-episode mini-series called "Significant Others", as well as several short films. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is easily her biggest project yet.
As with all five of the youngsters, Brooks, Hawkins, Shepard, Steiner, and Diane, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will serve as the launching pad for their future success. A success that should come sooner rather than later. The show will of course be featured at San Diego Comic-Con, though who from the show will be there is anyone's guess, but you can expect to hear some sort of news about it at the convention.
