Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid went from animation to live-action when their characters from Star Trek: Lower Decks crossed over with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. And the episode proved to be popular, so much so that both sides of the table want a second crossover.

At Star Trek San Francisco, as reported by Trekmovie, Newsome joined her fellow co-stars Dawnn Lewis and Eugene Cordero to talk about Lower Decks, and while season three of Strange New Worlds does not include a crossover episode, that doesn't mean there aren't machinations going on behind the scenes. According to Newsome, Strange New Worlds' co-showunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers have offered some funny ways to get her back onboard. And while she acknowledges that half of it is just joking, she knows if an opportunity arises, another crossover would happen.

"So there is not a crossover currently slated. But I will tell you every time I’m at like, the Saturn Awards or Critics Choice or something, Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Meyers – the showrunners for Strange New Worlds – are always like, ‘We had another idea for how to get you on the show. Would you ever dress as a Ferengi and come on…?’ They are always scheming. Half of it is us joking and pitching, but I do believe that if something came up in the room, we’d all rush to do it."

With the success of the first crossover, it's probably only a matter of time before Strange New Worlds finds another place for both Newsome and Quaid, and maybe even a few more of the characters. It would be great to see Gabrielle Ruiz as T'Lynn interact with Ethan Peck's Spock while Captain Freeman could certainly have some interesting conversations with Captain Pike (Anson Mount). Overall, though, it just makes sense for another crossover to happen. And who knows? Maybe they'll flip the script and the Strange New Worlds cast will cross over onto Lower Decks. Who doesn't want to see Dr. M'Benga and Lt. Ortegas as animated characters?
