Terry Matalas nominated for Writers Guild Award for Star Trek: Picard

Terry Matalas, showrunner for the final season of Star Trek: Picard, picked up another nomination, this time by the Writers Guild Award. Matalas was nominated for Best Writing in an Episodic Drama for his script for “The Last Generation,” the season 3 finale ofStar Trek: Picard as reported by Trekmovie.

Star Tek has received this nomination five times over the course of its history, with Star Trek: The Next Generation earning one for "Measure of a Man," And Picard is the first of the new Star Trek shows airing on Paramount+ to receive this accolade. The only other episode in franchise history to have won this award is "City on the Edge of Forever," which was written by Harlan Ellison.

Matalas took to Twitter/X to express his honor at being nominated, and he also thanked the Writers Room for Star Trek: Picard season three, saying their names belonged in this category as well.

The other nominees for this award are: Shonda Rhimes (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story), Jon Brown & Ted Cohen (Succession), Georgia Pritchett & Will Arbery (Succession), Chris Brancato & Michael Panes (Godfather of Harlem), and Peter Morgan (The Crown).

The third season of Star Trek: Picard has one of the best seasons of Star Trek history, and the numerous nominations for awards are a testament to that. Recently, Matalas also earned an Astra Award from the Hollywood Creative Alliance for Best Writing in a Streaming Drama Series for the Picard season 3 finale “The Last Generation." In addition, the series recently won a Saturn Award for Best Science Fictiion Television Series. Sir Patrick Stewart also won for Best Actor in a Television Series at the Saturn Awards and Jeri Ryan took home an award for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series while Jonathan Frakes won Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series.
