The fans pick the 5 worst episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation
By Chad Porto
When we talk about landmark series in Star Trek, few rate it as highly as The Next Generation. It wasn't the first series, the Original Series was, but it was the one that established the proof of concept of Star Trek being able to be bigger than one cast, one crew, and one ship. Without it, there'd be no Star Trek anymore. At least as we know it today.
So when we talk about The Next Generation, there are a lot of great, wonderful episodes and storylines that helped define the franchise for generations to come. On the flip side of things, however, it was also responsible for some of the worst episodes in franchise history. Luckily, the good far outweighs the bad but the bad are truly terrible.
We decided to look at how the fans felt about The Next Generation's biggest flops, so we took to the internet. The one site that may give the most honest and accurate reflection of fan opinions is IMDB. Many sites can provide an honest look into a series or episode, but we feel IMDB represents the best collection of fan opinions out there.
So, according to the fan rankings on IMDB, these are the five worst-rated episodes from the series;
- Shades of Gray (3.3)
- Sub Rosa (4.8)
- Angel One (5.7)
- Man of the People (5.7)
- Masks (5.8)
Honestly? Not a good episode among those five. Sometimes fans can get it wrong. After all, cult classics only become classics because a major group of fans reject them initially. So we know that fans can get it wrong. We know that perception affects the views of a property and it causes a wave of negativity that isn't deserved.
That isn't the case here. Especially with Sub Rosa and Shades of Gray. When the plot lines for these specific episodes involve ghost sex and a clip show, you know you're heading into all-time worst territory.
So if you're thinking about watching The Next Generation for the first (or 50th) time, feel free to skip these five episodes.
