After five seasons, Star Trek: Lower Decks will wrap up its run on Paramount+ and the talent will go their separate ways. The show was canceled in the first part of 2024, months before the fifth season was set to air. Now the fifth and final season is coming down the pipeline and fans know there won't be a sixth season to follow.

While there were some fans hoping for more Lower Decks seasons to be made, the show never trended as well as other shows and seemed to have a smaller fanbase than Star Trek: Discovery. The show was beyond niche, catering to only a small amount of Star Trek fans while focusing mostly on callbacks and cameos.

Most new fans either loved it because it wasn't Star Trek, or couldn't get into it due to the amount of past lore that it embraced and built upon. The cancelation wasn't shocking, as it was an underperforming show, that cost a lot of money to make and wasn't making enough waves to justify keeping it around.

Despite surviving for five seasons, matching the amount Star Trek: Discovery, some people are calling for the show to be saved. Not just fans, either but Star Trek actors and actresses as well. A number of them came together for a new YouTube video, posted in the middle of June, where they can all be seen chanting "Lower Decks" in a bid to save the show.

After 11 days of being up, the video only has 11k views, far less than many other videos on the Star Trek-centric YouTube channel.

If reviews of Discovery are out-pacing a Lower Deck call to arms, that may be all the signs we need to know. Lower Decks was Star Trek's answer to Rick and Morty and it never obtained any aspect of the same zeitgeist that they were going for.

It turned its back on traditional Star Trek storytelling to be crude, rude, and salacious. It had its fans but since no one is in talks to pick it up and talent like Tawny Newsome are moving over to Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, it's pretty clear there's no saving the show.
