William Shatner, surprisingly, has not closed the door on returning to Star Trek

Star Trek icon William Shatner isn't done with the franchise just yet.

Don't count William Shatner out just yet. The first and former James T. Kirk is still quite active despite being 93 years old. Despite his age, he appears in good health, both physically and mentally, and is still very much active in the entertainment space. So it's not surprising to hear about the roles he'd still play.

One of which, however, is that of James T. Kirk. Despite the fact he hasn't played the character in 30 years, and his Kirk has been killed off in the 1994 film Star Trek Generations, Kirk is still down to Trek.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter (via Yahoo.com), Shatner revealed that he'd absolutely return to Star Trek, but with some conditions. The Hollywood Reporter brought up the rumor that Paramount+ is kicking around ideas for Shatner's return to Trek, so the interviewer asked Shatner if he'd be interested in returning to the property. When asked if Shatner would entertain such an idea, Shatner went on to say;

"Leonard [Nimoy] made his own decision on doing a cameo [in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek]. He’s there for a moment, and it’s more a stunt that Spock appears in a future. If they wrote something that wasn’t a stunt that involved Kirk, who’s 50 years older now, and it was something that was genuinely added to the lore of Star Trek, I would definitely consider it."

Is there room for Shatner in Trek still? If the franchise did a massive Avenger's-level story, where core characters from across the shows and films came together, then I'd say so. It'd be hard to undo his character's death in Generations, but if you could bring Shatner back as a different version of his Kirk, then why not?

It'd be hard to build an entire property around him, as he is 93, but you can split the difference between a cameo role and a starring role pretty easily. All you have to do is make his involvement necessary and Shatner may be on board.
