The script for Star Trek: Origins, which is not the official name for the movie, written by Seth Grahame-Smith , author of the New York Times Bestselling novels, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, reportedly has been finished and is now on its way to an approval. [via Trekmovie] As previously reported, this could mean the movie will begin filming next year and be ready for a release to the big screen in 2026.

At the helm of the movie is Toby Haynes who directed Black Mirror's U.S.S. Callister. That particular episode was written by the series creators Charlie Brooke and William Bridges, who is a Star Trek fan, and was as close to a Star Trek episode as Haynes has gotten. Supposedly, there will be a sequel to this episode in the seventh season of Black Mirror, which Variety confirmed is still happening. It's unknown whether Haynes will direct that episode as well.

As this Star Trek film will be set mainly on Earth, fans have questions about how well this one is going to go over as Trek has always been based on space. You know the whole, "space, the final frontier" thing. Plenty of discussions are taking place on forms and boards where fans are not too keen on this idea, which was originally what was planned for the first season of Star Trek: Enterprise.

At least this movie is moving forward and we'll learn more as it does. While we're all apprehensive about this idea, there is a possibility this could end up being a great movie. That means we have to be open to the possibility. We can do that, right? Not saying it will be easy, of course, but this movie might end up being a great new introduction for those who've never seen Star Trek. Bringing more eyes to the Trek franchise doesn't have a downside.
