Star Trek fans have a chance to see "Orders of Magnitude" before it debuts.
Trekkies, Trekkers, and new fans to the Star Trek universe have so many opportunities on the horizon to celebrate the 60th anniversary of creator Gene Roddenberry’s incredible science fiction franchise. And those who live in Los Angeles, or care to make the trek to the City of Angels, can watch Strange New Worlds season 4’s eighth episode, “Orders of Magnitude” before it begins streaming.
The Autry Museum of the American West is holding a special outdoor screening of Strange New Worlds’ “Orders of Magnitude” on Star Trek Day (Tuesday, Sept. 8), and the event is FREE to attend. However, those interested in attending must RSVP to secure their place, which can be done through Street Food Cinema’s official website.
Prior to the screening of “Orders of Magnitude,” Star Trek fans will also be treated to a showing of The Original Series episode that started it all back on Sept. 8, 1966: “The Man Trap.” Doors open at 6 p.m. PT with the double-feature event scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
Now, while the event is free for those who RSVP, the Street Food Cinema website does warn that “a ticket does not guarantee admission to the event,” so Star Trek enthusiasts will want to arrive early to secure their place. There will also be photo ops and special giveaways, but there hasn’t been any mention of which Trek celebrities will be in attendance at the time of this writing.
Porthos lovers this one's for you: Yes, dogs are allowed at the Star Trek double feature celebrating the franchise turning the big 60. Fans can also bring their own chairs but the SFC website also instructs attendees that “guests may bring low chairs (max 6 inches off the ground)."
"Chairs with legs must be placed in the designated ‘Chair Section’ along the perimeter of blanket seating," the website continues. "Taller chairs are only permitted at the far edges to avoid blocking views. SFC staff will be available if you need assistance.”
Free parking is also “available at and near the Autry Museum and throughout Griffith Park.”
The Star Trek double feature is a great opportunity to watch SNW’s “Orders of Magnitude” a couple of days early. However, for those who don’t live in LA or can’t make the trip, the eighth episode of season 4 will be available to stream Thursday, Sept. 10, on Paramount+.
I’m excited about “Orders of Magnitude” because this is the episode of Strange New Worlds in which Starfleet takes command of the USS Enterprise. This is also the long-awaited arrival of veteran actor and Scandal’s Joe Morton, who starred in two films I love to watch over and over again: Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
