Star Trek fans who are looking to celebrate the franchise’s upcoming 60th anniversary with fellow Trekkies and Trekkers will all have the opportunity to go down in history while participating in a world record-breaking event.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, which marks six decades of unforgettable Treks, the London Science Museum in the South Kensington district is going to attempt a Guinness World Record for the “most people performing a Vulcan salute simultaneously” (per the museum’s official website).
The Guinness World Record attempt is a part of the Science Museum’s Star Trek and Lates celebrations which are designated for adults only during the facility’s after hours of operation.
“We’re teaming up with Paramount and Star Trek fans to attempt an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title,” the GWR event’s description reads on the museum’s website. “Join us to celebrate 60 years of Star Trek by showcasing your best Vulcan salutes on this momentous occasion.”
For those overseas, or Star Trek fans who want to make the trek across the pond to participate in the Vulcan salute attempt, you’ll need to book tickets ahead of time by visiting this Science Museum link: first come, first served! This is only the initial step, though.
While the tickets are free, and there are plenty of time slots still available to reserve (at the time of this writing), those planning to attend will also need to sign up for the Guiness World Record attempt when they arrive in person at the museum.
Those on hand can sign up at the Science Museum’s famed Shake Bar on level three. At that point, Star Trek fans there for the Vulcan salute world record attempt will receive a wristband and be asked to also register online specifically with Guinness World Records.
You can also download the Guinness Worlds Records Verify app to make the check-in process easier and also to receive continuous updates. Important: signing up for the event can only be done in person.
If for some reason guests cannot download the GWR app, “you can use the unique QR code to check-in that will be emailed to you when you register as a participant,” according to the Science Museum’s website. And, obviously, taking videos and photos are permitted at the Vulcan salute event since this is a matter of setting a major record for posterity.
Again, the Vulcan salute event is a part of the Science Museum’s after-hours Late series, so Star Trek fans who want to join in on the fun must be at least 18 years old. Doors will open at 6 p.m. (GMT+1) with the last available time slot being scheduled for 9:15 p.m.
