Watch some of the franchise’s best offerings with the world’s best fandom in Vegas.
Star Trek’s 60th anniversary celebration is officially underway in Sin City, and many fans of creator Gene Roddenberry’s science fiction franchise will be on hand for all the fun and festivities. Whether its meeting iconic actors like William Shatner or cosplaying as fan-favorite characters like the Borg Queen or Seven of Nine, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at this year’s highly anticipated ST-LV: Trek to Vegas, including nightly screenings.
Every night at 10 p.m. PT/1 a.m. ET, ST-LV will screen a must-see entry for fans to enjoy together on the Rio Hotel & Casino’s mammoth screens in the “masquerade area” (per the ST-LV official website). And opening night (Wednesday, Aug. 5) of the 60th anniversary get-together will feature none other than the franchise’s first film, Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979).
The entire ST-LV 2026 screening schedule continues as follows:
(Thursday, Aug. 6) Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home — 40th anniversary screening
(Friday, Aug. 7) Star Trek: First Contact — 30th anniversary screening
(Saturday, Aug. 8) Enterprise “Broken Bow” Part 1 and 2 — 25th anniversary screening
(Sunday, Aug. 9) Galaxy Quest
The comedic We Hate Movies podcast team will also be hosting special screenings at this year's ST-LV, which is scheduled as follows in the Rio's Brasilia Ballroom:
(Thursday, Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m.) Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
(Friday, Aug. 7 at 10:30 p.m.) Star Trek Generations
(Saturday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m.) Star Trek: First Contact
So, I’m going to address the elephant-sized Sehlat in the room: Galaxy Quest? I know director Dean Parisot’s sci-fi comedy is a favorite with critics and fans alike, but it’s NOT Star Trek, regardless of it paying homage to the intellectual property or not.
Why waste an ST-LV screening event on a film from outside of the franchise, especially when Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year? How about showing Star Trek Beyond (2016) for its 10th anniversary? I’m not sure what the ST-LV creative team was thinking here, but, otherwise, I’m excited about the lineup.
