Roddenberry Entertainment's Trevor Roth shared his thoughts at this year’s MIA.

The 12th Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo, aka MIA, is currently underway in Rome, and Roddenberry Entertainment Chief Operating Officer and President of Development, Trevor Roth, rightly feels as many others do that the Star Trek franchise is at “a crossroads.” The COO said while attending the five-day event in Italy (per Variety):

“Right now, Star Trek is at a bit of a crossroads, with the end of the current series that are going on, with the fact that it’s been a while since a movie has been out and with decisions needing to be made with what the franchise will be.”

For those who may be new to the Star Trek fandom, Roth is referring to the fact that there are currently no television and/or streaming Treks in production — as far as the fans know.

And while I agree that the franchise is at a "crossroads" like many others fans of Star Trek feel, I don’t believe the future is that in doubt, nor is the situation quite as dire as some may like to play up in the press and on social media.

Both the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy (10 episodes) and Strange New Worlds (six episodes) streaming series still have episodes yet to drop on Paramount+, and those final 16 will all fill up the 2027 schedule. So, that means that the powers that be at CBS Studios still have time to greenlight another small-screen project, or projects , which could be ready for television in 2028.

Now, what about Star Trek's theatrical future?
