"Hit the bricks, pal, and beat it 'cause” this well-renowned Hollywood actor boldly went where no one has gone before by pitching an extremely adult version of Star Trek. Oscar nominee (The Cooler | Best Actor in a Supporting Role) Alec Baldwin recently appeared for a live taping of his Here’s The Thing podcast at this year’s On Air Fest in Brooklyn, New York, which is where he discussed the worst idea for a Trek ever. Baldwin said about his pitch via People:
"I say to these guys, 'I want to do Star Trek, but an R-rated Star Trek. There's a ton of sex and s**t. Everyone is having sex in the space shuttle.’ We're in the spaceship, the command center, just me [Baldwin as the captain] and her [a female crew member] and I put a chip in her head. Who the f**k knows what that means, right? I just love it. You can do anything. ... I'm telling this to these guys at Sony or something, and they're looking at me going, 'No, we're never doing that.'"
Personally, I first envisioned Baldwin’s R-rated version of Star Trek playing out as a brash buddy comedy with Kirk (Baldwin) and Mr. Spock operating under a premise similar to an Eddie Murphy movie from the 1980s, a la 48 Hours or Beverly Hills Cop. However, after hearing Baldwin’s unusual pitch laid out in detail, his voyage would have been more about exploring crewmates, rather than strange new worlds.
Baldwin didn’t reveal when he pitched this Star Trek idea, but it sounds to me more like Basic Instinct or Fifty Shades of Grey set in the Alpha Quadrant. The award-winning actor did admit at On Air Fest that his proposal was a "bad pitch,” which I totally agree with — and it has to be the worst ever, right?
However, to be perfectly fair, back in the day, Cinemax — once referred to as Skinemax for its adult content — might have jumped at the chance to air Baldwin’s sordid sexual romp set amongst the stars.

Live long and prosper, Trekkies.
