Anson Mount, who portrays Captain Christopher Pike in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, is trading in his gold Starfleet uniform to don the Dark Knight’s cape and cowl in the upcoming animated film Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall.
An exclusive trailer dropped back in June announcing the project and Mount’s casting as Bruce Wayne/Batman, but now fans can watch the brand-new official trailer (per Warner Bros.) below ahead of the movie’s digital release on Tuesday, August 25.
Mount’s Knightfall flick, which is based on the 1993-1994 comic book storyline of the same name, will also be released via physical media on Tuesday, Sept. 8, in 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats. For those Star Trek fans not familiar with Knightfall’s plot, Bane (Michael Mando) breaks out all the deadly inmates from Arkham Asylum in order to wear down the Batman.
While tirelessly trying to round up his most dangerous villains in the Knightfall comics and new film, including the Joker, Riddler, and Scarecrow, Batman is deprived of sleep and slowly breaks down both physically and mentally. Having deduced the Dark Knight’s true identity, Bane waits until Batman is at his weakest and most vulnerable.
Bane then shows up at Wayne Manor to confront Bruce and break the Batman! And judging from the new official trailer, it seems Knightfall: Part 1 is being quite faithful to the original comic book run. However, as a lifelong fan of not only Star Trek, but Batman, too, I’m most looking forward to Knightfall: Part 3.
In that Knightfall sequel storyline, which is titled KnightsEnd, Bruce rises from the ashes of his defeat at the hands of Bane to reclaim the mantle of the Dark Knight in Gotham City. In many ways, it’s a much more emotional journey for Bruce Wayne to endure.
And I can’t wait to see Mount flex his talented acting muscles, in particular when Batman is aided by his former partner, the original Robin (Dick Grayson), who has taken on the identity of the crimefighter Nightwing in adulthood.
