Granted, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cranked out a lackluster season 3, but does that mean the popular science fiction series deserved to be shut out of Golden Globe consideration? Well, the nominees for the 83rd annual awards ceremony were announced yesterday (Monday, Dec.8), and that is exactly what happened. Glancing over the list the Star Wars series Andor received recognition as actor Diego Luna was nominated for Best Performance by a Male actor in Television Series Drama. So, where is the love for Star Trek’s Anson Mount?
This opinion piece is in no way diminishing the incredible acting talents of Luna. Rather, this story focuses on a nearly 30-year Hollywood veteran, Mount, who has mastered his acting craft to the point that he has made playing the USS Enterprise’s Captain Christopher Pike look effortless. Whether Pike is contemplating his tragic destiny, juggling his arduous duties as the starship’s commander, or relating to his love interest, Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano), Mount is hitting every single mark — and making Pike easily one of the most relatable and beloved Star Trek characters on Strange New Worlds.
