Guidera played a Cardassian in Deep Space Nine season 2.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine guest Anthony Guidera has passed away at the age of 65. The actor and model portrayed a Cardassian in season 2's "The Circle," but most fans will likely remember him for his contributions to The Godfather Part III and some steamy screen time with Natasha Henstridge in the original Species.

According to TMZ, Guidera’s heart unexpectedly gave out on him and he collapsed back in May, while with his wife, Valarie. Unfortunately, after being taken off of life support, the Deep Space Nine guest star passed away on Saturday, June 6.

Guidera didn’t play a big role in Star Trek: DS9, and even if he had, it’s likely the actor/model would have gotten lost in the mix. In addition to the regular cast of heavyweights led by the show’s leader, Avery Brooks, the season 2 episode Guidera appeared in, “The Circle,” was loaded with a who’s who of Hollywood talent as that particular installment’s guest stars.

First, Richard Beymer, who played Tony in the original film adaptation of West Side Story (1961), portrayed the heroic Bajoran Li Nalas in Deep Space Nine’s “The Circle.” Beymer’s presence alone would have been enough star power to overshadow everyone else.

However, fans were also treated to the performances of fellow Tinseltown A-listers Frank Langella and Louise Fletcher. So, it’s easy to see how some viewers might have overlooked Guidera’s Cardassian cameo.

Personally, I remember first seeing Guidera in one of my favorite sequels, The Godfather Part III (1990). The film also marked Guidera’s first professional credit, as he portrayed one of Vincent’s (Andy Garcia) bodyguards — not to be confused with the famous “twins,” who protected the future Corleone. Those bodyguards were played by Rogerio and Carlos Miranda.

The Redshirts Always Die and FanSided teams are saddened to hear of Mr. Guidera’s passing, and we would like to pass on our condolences to those closest to him, including his family and friends.
